Simple and delicious birthday cake!

We have ice cream cake every year for my daughter's June birthday. It is always a big hit at her annual pool party. This year, we did something different: we made it ourselves. It definitely cost less and it was easy to prepare. With my mother-in-law's fancy handwriting, we customized the top decoration to fit the party's theme and my daughter's current interests. The result: pure deliciousness!

Join the Yolo Basin Foundation to learn about and view live bats, native to Northern California, at one of our popular summer events. Following the 45 minute indoor presentation on bat natural history, the group will carpool out to the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area to watch one of the largest colonies of Mexican free-tailed bats in California as it emerges in large ribbons to hunt insects at sunset. To get to the bat viewing site, we will travel through leased rice farming fields to an area not open to the public. The whole experience takes about 3 hours.

Come to the Cache Creek Nature Preserve and learn more about the outdoor natural world! The Cache Creek Conservancy is introducing a new program this summer to introduce students to the outdoor world. On six summer Wednesdays starting at 9 AM until 11 AM Conservancy education specialists will be hosting interactive discovery stations for the public. People can drop by at any time during this two hour period and experience a hands-on learning activity. While the focus is on elementary age students, everyone is welcome and they will learn more about the natural environment of the area. There is no charge to participate in this event.

Children’s Museum Adds Downtown Cityscape Exhibit


The actual cityscape of California’s capital city is the newest and very popular exhibit at the Sacramento Children’s Museum (SCM), 2701 Prospect Park Drive in Rancho Cordova.

The display includes the Capitol, the Ziggurat (the pyramid-shaped building), the Wong Tower, Tower Bridge, plus other downtown structures and a couple “futuristic” buildings.
